Bodrum is situated on the southern coast of the Bodrum Peninsula which is on the south west (Aegean coast) of Turkey. The town looks out over the Aegean and faces the Greek island of Kos which is popular destination for one of the many boat ride operators.

Bodrum has it's own airport, the Milas-Bodrum Aiport, which is only 22 miles northeast, a 30 to 40 minute taxi ride away.

Bodrum was a former fishing and sponge diving village but today is a busy tourism and yachting center. The town has many good shops and some of the better restaurants of the Aegean coast. It has a reputation as a party town with discos and bars open until early hours. It's also an artistic center for the region with artisans displaying their work in galleries and open air displays.

Bodrum Castle at night

There are markets held on Tuesdays and Fridays selling local produce and crafts. If history is your thing then there's plenty to see. Highlights include the Bodrum castle which was built by the crusaders who arrived here in 1402 - it took over one hundred years to complete. Also worth a mention is the Museum of Underwater Archaeology which has plenty of booty displayed from ancient sea wrecks.

Yalikavak Resort Turkey

Nine miles away from Bodrum, on the northern west coast of the Bodrum Peninsula, is the peaceful resort of Yalikavak. This is a great place to head for a quieter, less commercialized holiday. Yalikavak was once a small fishing port and its harbour is now lined with restaurants. The village square is charming and offers a chance to unwind with a coffee from one of its coffee houses. You can explore its cobbled streets in search of a bargain. There is an open air amphitheatre where concerts are held during the summer months.

Market day in Yalikavak is every Thursday.

Bitez Resort Turkey

Bitez Beach, Bodrum Peninsula

Bitez is just 5 miles from Bodrum and has a large beach which is popular for wind surfing and water sports. It's also great for bathers as it's a shallow beach with marked bathing areas and sun loungers available. This Beach also has some fine restaurants and a marina for boat trips and water sports.

Bitez is a quieter resort but the lively towns of Bodrum and Gumbet and a short hop away by taxi - so you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Gumusluk Resort Turkey

Gumusluk Bay, Bodrum Peninsula Rabbit Island, Gumusluk

Gumusluk is a pretty fishing village just 15 miles from Bodrum. Gumusluk is built on the ancient city of Myndos and is therefore a protected area. The ruins and mosaics are still visible in the shallow waters around Rabbit Island which is accessible via a submerged stone causeway. The bay, with its warm shallow waters, is ideal for snorkeling and there are other water sports facilities available from the beach.

Owing to its protected status the village remains under-developed, retaining an authentic feel. There are a number of restaurants on the waters edge where you can enjoy some local caught fish.
